Bitterns
May 17, 2007 - This American Bittern flew across Hwy 49, in Horicon Marsh NWR, as I was idling along the shoulder. I quickly came to a stop and watched where he landed, and got these photos.

Egrets
September 12, 2010 - After seeing Cattle Egrets at a farm just south of Waupun on September 11th, 2010, the flock of about 25 was very reliable, for over a week. Instead of following the cows around at their feet catching grasshoppers as they stirred them up, the Egrets were catching what seemed to be a never-ending supply of toads!

October 3, 2007 - A few Cattle Egrets just outside of the northeast corner of Horicon Marsh NWR, in a pasture with some cows.

August 20, 2005 - A Great Egret with a catfish along Hwy 49 in Horicon Marsh NWR.

Eurasian Collared Dove
Summer of 2007 - Still a rare sighting in Wisconsin, although thier range is expanding, I had three Euraisian Collared Doves hanging around my neighborhood, well into the winter.

Finches
February 7, 2009 - The population of COMMON REDPOLL'S varies greatly in the US from year to year, and they are very abundant in the winter of '08-'09. I got all the pictures I wanted out my living room window in my neighbor's tree (the males have the red breast).

I like how the AMERICAN GOLDFINCH is fanned out in the first picture, and how the one in the second picture landed on the stem of a leaf, instead of a branch.

Geese
A June 15, 2003 - A family of CANADA GEESE getting harrassed by a blackbird after getting too close to its nest in Horicon Marsh NWR.

A Canada Goose family along Ledge Road in Horicon Marsh, May 6, 2004, and another family walking through a park in the city of Horicon, taken from a pontoon boat, heading out on a guided tour of Horicon Marsh, May 26, 2005.

April 28, 2007 - I photographed this Canada Goose nest, about 30 feet off of hwy 49, in Horicon Marsh, for a few hours while the eggs were hatching. A total of five goslings appeared while I was there. The adult would occasionaly stretch out, and jump in the water, always staying within about twenty feet of the nest. In the last shot, I thought the babies were ready to jump in the water, but they didn't. The adults continued to sit on the nest, either to keep the babies warm until they were ready to take to the water, or there were more eggs in the nest.
